Sophia Emmanuel is an IAT Certified Trichologist and licensed cosmetologist. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and a minor in Computer Applications. In 2001, she graduated with her cosmetology license from Jane Addams Vocational High School. As a hairstylist, Sophia realized that she had to have a deeper understanding of the hair and scalp because some of her clients had trouble with hair loss and she had no idea how to help them. She decided to become a certified trichologist after reading Barry Fletcher’s book titled, Why Are Black Women Losing Their Hair?
Trichology is the science of the hair and scalp, cosmetic chemistry, and life sciences. It encompasses the science of the structure, function and diseases of the human hair and scalp. As a trichologist, Sophia is able to help women find answers to why they are experiencing hair loss, and make recommendations on how to treat it.
As a trichologist and cosmetologist Sophia is able to identify scalp disorders early enough for her clients to get the help they need to stabilize the problem. Early detection of hair loss plays a critical role in saving hair follicles.
When she is not at the salon helping women find solutions for their hair problems, she is at home writing articles about hair loss prevention, and reviewing hair care products on her blog, crownworthy.com. She has been featured on several online magazines such as BET.com, huffingtonpost.com and allure.com for advice on hair loss, and was a writer for Naturallycurly.com where she advised women on healthy hair and scalp care.
